2008-2009 Season
Vocal Scenes
For the last decade, the André-Turp Musical Society (ATMS) has enriched the musical milieu with artistic experiences of a rare quality that have helped to reinvigorate a highly expressive art form, the art-song recital. These concerted efforts, which have often been termed heroic, have allowed a growing number of music lovers to appreciate an increasingly diverse numbers of works from a multitude of periods and cultures. This success rests in large part, on the quality of the invited artists, many of whom have given this musical genre inspired by the works of poets, a worthy platform.
Under the banner of Vocal Scenes, the artistic and educational activities that comprise the 2008-2009 season offer music lovers and lovers of litterature the opportunity of discovering memorable segments of the vocal repertoire performed by some of the world’s foremost singers and pianists. Faithful to our mandate of presenting new exciting artists, the new artistic programming presents both these emerging artists and major artists who return to grace our stages once more. As well as the six recitals that make up the regular season, the ATMS adds a Benefit Concert which seeks to celebrate our 10th anniversary.
ARTISTIC
ACTIVITIES
In parallel, the André-Turp Musical Society proposes a program
of educational activities with a view to initiating the public to
the vocal repertoire. Through the presentation of eight annual events
(lectures, round-tables and master-classes), the artistic direction
offers the public and young performers the opportunity of familiarizing
themselves with the specific demands of this repertoire.
